Vancouver
A city rich in history, Meriweather Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition once stated that Vancouver, Washington was “the only desired situation for settlement west of the Rocky Mountains”. The city of Vancouver was incorporated in January 1857, but was well established long before that time as real estate in the area started becoming attractive for many relocating to seek work. Fort Vancouver was used by the Hudson Bay Company as a fur trading post starting in 1824. Not too long after, American troops took over the fort and used it as the military headquarters for the Pacific Northwest. Currently, Vancouver, Washington is home to over 162,000 residents and continues to grow. While the history of the city is important and interesting, another aspect of why the town is a prime destinate for real estate is the beautiful scenery that surrounds Vancouver. Nestled against the Columbia River, Vancouver is surrounded by mountains from both the Cascade Range and the Coast Range. Sitting just an hour north is Mount Saint Helens and at less than an hour south, Mount Hood, these mountains provide plenty of snow in the winter to engage in snow sports, such as skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. There are also plenty of lakes and rivers for those who prefer to partake in water sports and fishing. Also, because of the mountainous landscape, there are plenty of place to hike, be it a day hike or a backpacking trip. EDUCATION IN VANCOUVER While Vancouver offers plenty of activities for those who enjoy the great outdoors, another important reason why interested home buyers consider Vancouver is the city provides an excellent educational system. In Vancouver alone, there are two different school districts (that provide, combined, 41 elementary schools, 13 middle schools and 12 high schools) and two colleges (Clark County College and Washington State University, Vancouver campus). Because of the number of schools in Vancouver, there are fewer students per classroom, on average. Vancouver, Washington also provides plenty of indoor activities for those who choose to stay inside. From several antique shops to specialty boutique stores, you can find just about anything you are looking for in the town. One of the largest bowling alleys in the region, Big Al’s is located in Vancouver. At over 60,000 square feet, a good time can be had by all!
